
| Past Events Jan 10, 2012: Welds: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly Please join us for an educational presentation on designing and specifying welds by our very own Erik Nelson, PE, SE of Structures Workshop, Inc. Erik will introduce the basics of designing welds and will discuss many weld detail examples (some good, some bad, and some ugly). There will be ample time for informal discussion on properly designing welds, proper use of weld symbols, and avoiding common pitfalls. Please join us! April 1, 2011: Diaphragms and More Providence, RI Timothy Mays will discuss the 2006/2009 International Building Code (IBC) and ASCE/SEI 7-05 requirements that are difficult for structural engineers to apply during routine practice such as....semi-rigid diaphragms (seismic and wind), sloped diaphragms, seismic joints, slotted connections used to isolate walls from seismic and wind loading, simplified dynamic analysis to include alternate means and methods commonly used in design, and design and detailing for heavy wheel loads (i.e., fork trucks) on elevated slabs.
